Dhanbad Dec 16: The 59th annual convention of Chemists and International Conference on Recent Trends in Chemical Sciences-2022 was organized by the Department of Chemistry & Chemical Biology of IIT (ISM) under the aegis of Indian Chemical Society, Kolkata on Friday.
During the convention, renowned chemical sciences experts from across the country discussed the issues such as societal application for nanomaterial’s relevance of analytical chemistry in environmental analysis and emphasized on carbon confiscation.
The experts also discussed the usage of Green Hydrogen, the increased use of Computers and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in designing chemical products and also mulled over carbon capturing and sequestration.
The Chief speaker, Vibhas Kumar, Executive Director and Bihar-Jharkhand head of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) highlighting the significance of chemical sciences said that the biggest challenge for the industry is to maintain sustainability in production. He also said that IOCL aims at achieving Carbon Emission neutralization by 2046.
Every aspect of International relations is affected by chemical science and those countries which are good (developed) in chemical sciences are prosperous.
Over the green initiatives, he said, “A bottling plant has been set up at Faridabad where plastic bottles will be converted into the fabric and IOCL plans to provide the uniforms made by such fabric to all the employees”. He further added that the company has also developed Aluminium Foil for the batteries.
The President of the Indian Chemical Society, Prof GD Yadav emphasized the need for the popularization of chemistry among the students in general and chemical engineering in particular. He also threw light on the history of Indian Chemical Society and also appealed the chemists and chemical engineers to donate generously for the strengthening of the society, including its infrastructure development.
“We must encourage the research and innovation in chemical sciences by translating curiosity into research,” said Prof Yadav.
The Director of IIT (ISM), Prof Rajiv Shekhar emphasized on the need for research and technology development for the economical capture of CO2 and ways of its utilization. He further raised the issue of difficulties in bulk transportation of Hydrogen which can be solved to some extent through ammonia but bulk production of ammonia is itself problematic.
