Dhanbad, July 11: Unidentified bike-borne criminals fired on Biharilal Choudhary Cloth and Ornament showroom, at GT Road based Govindpur Bazaar under the Govindpur police station area, around 10 km away from here on Monday, at around 9 pm.
A police official said that criminals fired one round in which the glass door of the showroom was completely shattered but no one was injured in the incident.
The staff of the showroom were preparing to shut down and, in the meantime, two bike-born criminals fired on the gate and fled away. Over two dozen staff were present in the showroom when the incident happened.
DSP Amar Kumar Pandey and Govindpur Police Station Officer-in-charge Gopal Chandra Ghoshal reached the spot after getting information and began an investigation. Pandey said that it seems the firing was done to create panic for extortion. “Criminals fired one round in which the glass gate of the showroom was damaged. CCTV cameras on GT road are being searched to identify the criminals,” he said.
The owner of the showroom, Prakash Choudhary, also reached the establishment after the incident. When asked, he refused having received any extortion demand from the criminals.
Notorious criminal of Wasseypur, Prince Khan has taken responsibility for the firing by releasing a letter on social media.
Federation of District Chamber of Commerce patron Rajesh Gupta and President Chaitan Goenka (who was out of the district) expressed concern over the incident.
Federation’s Secretary Ajay Narayan Lal said that traders of the district are used to such frequent incidents. “However, the matter is serious as this has created panic. A meeting has been called in the evening to discuss the situation,” he said.
