Dhanbad, Jan 28: The tragic demise of top gynaecologist Dr Vikash Hazra and his wife Dr Prema Hazra in a fire incident in his residence cum nursing home has sent shock waves in the medical fraternity of the state.
In wake of the tragic demise of the couple and three others, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) state chapter has cancelled its crucial meeting scheduled at the IMA building in Ranchi tomorrow.
The IMA state secretary Dr Pradeep Kumar Singh said that on demand and advice of executive members and district chapters across the state, the scheduled executive committee meeting has been cancelled in wake of the tragedy.
Notably, Dr Hazra had been senior vice-president of the IMA Dhanbad chapter for the last two terms.
Moreover, Health minister Banna Gupta, Dhanbad Sadar MLA Raj Sinha, Indian Medical Association (IMA), Jharkhand Health Service Association (JHSA), civil surgeon, principal and superintendent of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) have expressed their sorrow.
Dhanbad Sadar MLA Raj Sinha, who reached the residence of Dr Hazra immediately after getting information about the tragedy in the morning and ensured postmortem at the medical college with a physical presence, said that his demise is a personal loss to patients especially poor women who got quality and cheap service.
The IMA state president Dr AK Singh and secretary Dr Pradeep Kumar Singh Jharkhand IMA are very sorry and shocked over the tragic loss of Dr Hazra couple.
“He was not only a top gynaecologist but also an active member of IMA who always lead from the front for the cause of doctors,” they said.
They added that he was a devoted doctor and social worker who was always ready to work for the welfare of doctors in the association.
The JHSA state secretary Dr Thakur Mritunjay Kumar Singh has also expressed deep shock over the death of the Dr Hazra couple and said the entire medical fraternity in the state including government doctors are shocked by the incident.
Dr Alok Viswakarma (CS) and Dr Nirmal Drolia also expressed deep shock over the demise.
