Dhanbad 20, May 20: Hindustan Urvarak and Rasayan Limited (HURL) has decided to make the Sindri Township ‘Sundri’ again.
In this regard, the local management has initiated a step to make an ideal township under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) with development from its fund. The senior officials of the company held a meeting with representatives of local political and social organizations and sought their suggestions on launching a project for making the city a model township.
HURL Sindri, which has come up in the place of Fertilizer Corporation of India (FCI), is a joint venture of Coal India Limited (CIL) National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and Fertilizer Corporation of India. HURL would produce 3850 MT urea per day.
The company was scheduled to start production in 2020 but the Corona pandemic and local level political agitations have delayed its operation.
Sindri township was once called ‘Sundri‘ of the country for having all things in an organized way. But with the closure of FCI in December 2002, the township became a ghost town with broken roads, defunct water supply system, snapped power lines and dilapidated quarters.
HURL officials on Friday said that 14 development projects for beautification and requirement of local people including Hatia Road Shed construction, children parks, solar lights in nearby villages, washroom in Sindri College Sindri, Kuwar Singh Park, Priyadarshani Park were identified at the meeting with representatives for renovation in the first phase.
All India FCI VSS Employees Association (AIFCIVSSEA) has highly appreciated the move of HURL’s local management officers. Association’s president Sewa Singh said that HURL local management has rekindled hope of old Sindri’s revival for the residents.
“After the closure of FCI, Sindri had been almost a ghost township with no basic facilities but now the step of management we hope would return the old glory of the township,” said Sewa Singh, who attended the meeting.
