Dhanbad, Dec 6: IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad final year Electronic Engineering (EE) student Cherukuri Pravin Kumar was found hanging in his hostel room in late afternoon of Tuesday. Official sources said he hanged himself with a towel after locking the room from inside in Block ‘C’ of Ambar Hostel.
At around 4.30 PM, students of the hostel knocked his room and having no response, they immediately informed the IIT ISM management. Director Prof P Shekhar, deputy director Prof Dhiraj Kumar, security officer Ram Manohar Singh reached the hostel.
Dhanbad Sadar police station officers also reached the spot and Pravin Kumar was brought down. First, he was taken to the IIT ISM healh centre where doctors declared him brought dead. On pressure of students, Kumar was sent to super specialty hospital Asian Dwarika Jalan Hospital for confirmation.
Official sources said Pravin Kumar was resident of Cherukuri of Hyderabad. Security officer Ram Manohar Singh informed his parents in Hyderabad about the incident.
In wake of the tragedy, the management in late evening today cancelled its press conference scheduled tomorrow over convocation of the institution. Director Prof Shekhar said that the reason behind suicide could be cleared only after investigation.
A police official told media persons that no suicide note was found in the hostel room of Pravin Kumar. The room has been sealed and investigation is being done. The inmates of Ambar Hostel are clueless over the reason of suicide. A police official said mist over tragedy may clear after arrival of Pravin’s family members.
