Dhanbad, July 11: The Post Graduate ( PG) teachers of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) Dhanbad are on the boil over having been put under lock and key on the campus during working hours.
As per the university directive, the gate of the PG block is being locked by security guards during working hours from 11 am to 4 pm daily. No teacher can go out of campus during the period. The order has been effective for the last four days.
Besides, the university authority has also made it mandatory for the teachers to remain in the university for six hours and they can’t leave the campus before 4 pm.
Expectedly, the Post Graduate Teachers Association (PGTA) has strongly protested the decision of the university authority for confining the faculty members on the campus and locking the main gate.
The PGTA has called an emergent meeting today in the late afternoon to discuss the unprecedented situation (locking of the gate by the university) and decide the course of action for the dignity of senior teachers.
PGTA general secretary Prof DK Singh said that the PG teachers are shocked and aghast at the decision of the university to lock the teachers on the campus during working hours. “ We are not against the decree of the university for sitting six hours on the campus but locking of the gate during the period is unacceptable and against the dignity of teachers. No university in the country locks teachers on the campus but BBMKU has set a new trend. So, the PGTA has called an emergent meeting today to decide the course”.
The PGTA said that the teachers who try to go out in an emergency are being insulted by security guards. The gate is being locked without proper notification and informing the faculty members. Post Graduate teachers pointed out that when the university gets biometric attendance in video camera thrice a day then what is the need of locking them on campus during working hour.
“The University administration is working like a dictator as in last eight months since the Vice-chancellor has assumed office more than 50 teachers have been transferred,” said the PGTA office-bearer.
