Dhanbad, May 9: The court of Principal District and Sessions Judge Ram Sharma today sentenced life imprisonment to a murder-accused youth identified as Puroshottam Mandal alias Pappu Mandal in two years old case.
The judge while delivering the judgement besides life imprisonment, also slapped a penalty of Rs 10,000 on the accused.
Hyva driver Suraj Ravidas was found murdered in the Kankani Bazar area under the Loyabad police station on October 21, 2021. He had gone to draw salary payment from his employer in the morning and his body was found in the late afternoon at 4 pm.
Madhu Devi, wife of the deceased lodged an FIR in Loyabad police station on October 24, 2021. She named 11 people as accused in the case. However, the police after investigation filed the charge sheet against Pappu Mandal on January 23, 2022, and continued the investigation against 10 other accused.
Police investigation said Suraj Ravidas and Pappu Mandal engaged in a brawl at a wine shop. Puppu Mandal pushed him to the ground and hit him with a brick to death. Eyewitness of the incident Rahul Kumar Bhuia also got his statement recorded in the court.
The charge was framed against Pappu Mandal on May 9, 2022. Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) said total of 10 witnesses were cross-examined in the case.
