Dhanbad: Life term jail sentence to two for deadly assault

Dhanbad, May 16: The court of district and sessions judge on Tuesday sentenced two assaulters, Emmanuel Benjamin and Ritik Goel for life for a deadly attack (firing bullets) on two youths, Rohit Soni and Tinku Yadav, in a one-year-old case.

Additional public prosecutor (APP) Kuldeep Sharma told media persons that the court of district and sessions judge Rajkumar Mishra besides awarding life term imprisonment, also slapped a fine on both the assaulters.

The district and session judge has slapped Rs 20,000 on Emmanuel Benjamin while Rs  15,000 fine along with life term jail award on Ritik Goel.

The case is one year old and was filed at the Goshala police station of the district on March 18, 2022. FIR  was lodged by the police on the complaint of Rohit Soni.

As per the FIR, Tinku Yadav and Rohit Soni were walking on a road near Shiva Temple under Goshala police station when Benjamin along with Ritik riding on a bike came to the spot and fired bullets at Tinku Yadav on the chest. Before fleeing from the spot they also fired which hit Rohit Soni in the leg.

Both the injured youth were referred to Mission Hospital Durgapur (West Bengal). After an investigation, police fired a charge sheet against them on May 18, 2022. The trial began in court on July 29, 2022.

APP Kuldeep Sharma said a total of 14 witnesses were cross-examined during the trial.
