Dhanbad, Oct 29: Newly admitted B Tech students of IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) were briefed about campus rules and regulations and the activities of different student clubs, societies, technical clubs and fests during the orientation programme held at Penman Auditorium of the institute.
Devesh Kumar Singh gave a brief introduction about the aims of objectives of Students’ Gymkhana –the student body of the institute, which was followed by a short description of the election rules and schedule of the student body.
Another member of Student’s Gymkhana Disha Mewara made students aware of the activities of different cultural clubs, including Manthan- the official Musical Club; Chayanika Sangh-the oldest literary club of IIT (ISM), Mic Drop-the official Public Speaking Club, Drama Club; Quizzing Club of College; Official Fine Arts Club, Lights, official Film Making Club, Legends in the Making-the official Stage Dance Society of IIT (ISM); Comedy Club; Book Club; Literary and Debating Club; Udaan-The Career Club, Street Dance Club, Photography Club, The official Pod Cast Club of IIT (ISM) and Art of Living Chapter of IIT (ISM).
The students were also apprised about the four major annual fests of the institute, including Srijan- one of the biggest cultural fests which is organized during the month of February, Concetto-techno managerial fest t which is organized during October and Parakram-the sports festival and alumni fest-Basant both are also held in February.
Prof Rajni Singh (Dean of media and branding) IIT ISM said that on day one of the orientation programme the director of the institute Prof Rajiv Shekhar, dean of academics Prof Chiranjeev Kumar, Prof Sheeja Jagadevan, (associate dean) ,Prof MK Singh (Dean-Student Welfare) apprised the newly admitted students about the general rules and regulations of the institution while Prof Sagar Pal (Dean- Research & Development ) gave details of research opportunities and facilities.
During the 2nd half of the inaugural day of the orientation programme Prof Abhishek Singh (-Dean of Information systems) gave details of the management information system, Prof RM Bhattarcharjee-Dean-International Relations and Alumni Affairs gave details about the alumni base, Prof Pankaj Mishra (Dean of Innovation, Incubation and entrepreneurship) spoke about ongoing innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives; Rakesh Singh (associate dean- student activities) gave details of student activities and Prof Saurabh Datta Gupta-Associate Dean Hostel Management apprised students about hostel rules and regulations.
