Dhanbad, Dec 15: One of the coaches in the series of coaches parked in the yard at the Patherdih railway station under the Dhanbad Rail Division of East Central Railway (ECR) zone caught fire and was completely burnt late in the afternoon on Thursday.

The officials of Patherdih station informed media persons that around 15 coaches were connected and parked in the yard at the station when the fire was spotted at around 4:30 pm. Before the firefighters reached could the spot, one bogey of the train was burnt and completely destroyed.

However, station employees were able to save other coaches connected to it by separating them from the burning bogey. The Patherdih railway station officers claimed that they were clueless about how the coach caught fire. The railway rescue team had notably swung into action when they noticed the fire.

Senior officers of the Dhanbad Rail Division were not available on phone for a comment on the incident. Earlier in the day, the General Manager (GM) of East Central Railway Zone Hajipur Anupam Sharma had held a review meeting with the divisional headquarters office in Dhanbad over the coal connectivity project.

Later, he left for an inspection of the Shibpur-Tori rail section along with the senior officer of the Dhanbad rail division.
