Dhanbad: POCSO court awards 5-year jail term to rapist

Dhanbad, March 22: Special judge of the Dhanbad POCSO court today awarded a minor rape accused Sanjay Kumar Mahto 5 years jail sentence and a fine of Rs 5,000 in a three-year-old case.

Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) told media persons that the court of special judge Prabhakar Singh had held  Sanjay Kumar Mahto guilty in the case on Tuesday and had reserved the order on the quantum of punishment for Wednesday.

As per the FIR lodged in Topchachi police station of the district on august 2, 2020, Sanjay Mahto who is the uncle of the six-year-old victim girl, raped her on July 2, 2020. The wife of the maternal uncle (Mami) of the girl spotted the wound on August 2, when she was bathing her. After being asked the minor girl revealed that her uncle inflicted injury.

The Father of the victim girl lodged FIR at Topchachi police station on august 2, 2020 and police filed the charge sheet against Sanjay Kumar Mahto on August 31st, 2020.

APP said a total of eight witnesses were cross-examined during the trial in the case.
