Dhanbad, Nov 23: POCSO court on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment and slapped a penalty of Rs 5,000 to a 40-year-old accused of raping a seven-year-old.
The special judge of the POCSO Act court while delivering a quantum of punishment to a three-year-old case to accused Rajan Majhi (40), the resident of River Side Basti under Patherdih police station of district sentenced him to life imprisonment and a penalty of Rs 5,000.
The court had on Tuesday held Rajan Majhi guilty in the case and fixed Wednesday for announcing the quantum of punishment.
As per the FIR lodged in Patherdih police station on June 23, 2019, the accused who was the neighbour found the minor girl alone in the house and raped her.
The victim’s mother, who is an employee of a coal washery, had in her complaint alleged that she had gone her duty on the day when her neighbour Rajan Majhi found her daughter alone lured her into his house in the name of chocolate and raped her.
When she returned house in the evening, her daughter informed her. After getting information about the incident, first, the local people beat up the accused and later on an FIR was lodged at the police station.
