Dhanbad, July 11: Dhanbad St Xavier School Tetulmari principal and lady teacher were arrested and sent to jail in the afternoon today in connection with the class 10th girl student Usha Kumari’s (16) suicide case.
The girl had committed suicide on Monday morning after being humiliated and slapped by a lady teacher during prayer in the school for allegedly putting ‘Bindi’ on her forehead.
The girl had also left a suicide note in her room in the name of the Tetulmari police station officer in-charge before committing the crime. She held lady teacher ‘Sindhu Madam’ and principal RK Singh responsible. The girl had also written that she can’t tolerate insults in school in public and preferred death. The action should be taken against the teacher and principal, she wrote.
The girl after sent being back by the teacher from school for putting ‘Bindi’ on her forehead hanged to death with a ceiling fan in her house in Hanumangarhi Colony under Tetulmari police station, around 25 km away from district headquarters.
The police seized the suicide note and lodged an FIR against the teacher and the principal.
However, today having seen no action from the police even 24 hours after the incident, the family members of the victim girl and their relatives sat on the road with the body at 10 am in the morning demanding the arrest of the teacher and the principal.
After getting information, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Baghmara region Nisha Murmu reached the spot and assured to take action against the guilty school teacher as well as principal RK Singh.
In the afternoon Tetulmari police station in- charge, Ashish Kumar Yadav arrested both the accused from the school and sent them to jail.
The family members alleged that when the mother of the girl went to the school to lodge a complaint for slapping and humiliating her daughter for putting ‘Bindi’ on her forehead, principal RK Singh rudely sent her back.
The father of the girl, Bijay Bauri, had died a few years ago.
