Dhanbad, Nov 16: A private practitioner of Dhanbad, Dr AK Hazra was thrashed and dumped in Bokaro forest under Amlabad OP of the district on Monday evening.
Dr. Hazra, the resident of Digwadih Baluline area under Jorapokhar police station of Dhanbad district, had gone to attend a patient in Amlabad in the evening around 6 pm. The Amlabad area falls next to the Damodar River.
As he reached Sitanala forest, a few criminals attacked him with sharp weapons and injured him. At 9 p.m. he informed his wife Karuna Hazra about the incident and that he was lying in a forest. His wife then informed the Jorapokhar police station.
The Officer-in-charge of Jorapokhar police station, Suman Singh, went to the spot with his team and began searching for him with local people. However, before they reached the spot, Bokaro police had already found Dr Hazara and got him admitted to a hospital.
Family members of Dr. Hazra and police officials are yet to find out the reason for this brutal attack. They ruled out the motive of robbing as criminals did not touch his mobile phone through which he informed his wife after the incident.
His wife said that Dr. Hazra, who runs his clinic in the Baluline area in Dhanbad, received a call about a patient in the evening and set out on the bike for Amlabad.
Police officials said that only after proper interrogation of Dr Hazra, they could make any statement. “For the time being, we are investigating the assault case,” a police official said.
Reportedly Hazra has no MBBS degree but he practices in the region. Dhanbad Indian Medical Association (IMA) president Dr Major Chandan said that he is not a member of the doctor’s body but he would confirm this only after verifying the membership list.
