Dhanbad, June 7: The railway divisional authorities had to blackout the hustle-bustle Dhanbad railway station for more than 45 minutes in the late evening of Tuesday after a youth was found sleeping on the rooftop of a running goods train.

The power line had to be disconnected and after a 45-minute operation, the youth was rescued.

Railway Protection Force officials said that the youth travelled while sleeping on the rooftop of the goods train bogie for around 179 km from Tankuppa railway station to Dhanbad railway station on Dhanbad – Gaya rail section before being spotted.

At around 9.15 pm, the passerby on the foot overbridge of the railway station spotted the youth sleeping on the rooftop of the goods train on the loop line and raised an alarm. They informed the railway control room about it.

After getting information, the railway authority immediately blacked out the station and pressed an Overhead Inspection Car to rescue the youth. Six personnel got down the youth who was found sleeping in an intoxicant condition.

RPF Inspector Pankaj Kumar said that the youth was identified as Lakhpati Chouhan, a resident of Narayanpur village near Tankuppa railway station in Bihar.

Government Railway Police (GRP) officials of Dhanbad railway station said that the youth revealed that since he was in an intoxication condition, he had no sense of how he climbed the roof of the train that stopped at Tankuppa railway station.

Railway rescue team officials Dhanbad rail division were surprised that how could the youth escape unhurt on a 179 km route in sleeping while a high voltage overhead wire was almost touching him.

Pankaj Kumar, an RPF Inspector of Dhanbad Railway station, said that since the youth was in an intoxicated condition, he was let off at night on the directive of senior officers.
