Dhanbad, Nov 30: One of the senior most professors and head of the eye department in Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dr Rajnikant Sinha retired on Wednesday after giving 26 years of service in the institution.
Dr Sinha, who is considered eminent ophthalmologist teacher in all five medical colleges in the state, joined the then Patliputa Medical College Hospital, Dhanbad (now SNMMCH) in 1996. He first joined Bhagalpur Medical College and thereafter transferred to PMCH Dhanbad in undivided Bihar.
Dr Singh became assistant professor in 2004 and Professor in the department in 2013. In 2019, he became head of the department and set record in operation of the patients. Same year (in 2019) Dr Sinha individually conducted highest operations of patients under Ayushman Bharat scheme in the medical colleges hospital as well as in Sadar Hospital of districts in state. But unfortunately he is yet to get award as well as cash benefit announced by district administration.
Dr Sinha completed MBBS from Bhagalpur Medical College in 1982 and post graduate from Darbhanga Medical College Hopital (DMCH) in 1986. He started his service as medical officer in health department of Bihar from Gopalganj district of Bihar in 1988. He also worked in Muzaffarpur Sadar Hospital before entering medical teaching line at Bhagalpur Medical College.
Dr Sinha was considered one of the most dedicated doctors of the hospital. Recently when senior residents of hospital had gone on pen down strike (from November 2) he alone attended patients in OPD and indoor besides attending classes of students in college.
Apart from an eye specialist, Dr Sinha is also renowned sports person. He had been district champion in snooker/ billiard and tennis for several years.
SNMMCH Dr Jyotiranjan Prasad, superintendent Dr AK Barnbal and faculty members of different department in the evening bode farewell and recalled Dr Sinha’s outstanding contribution in teaching of students and attending patients in OPD as well as indoor.
