Dhanbad, Oct 1: The three-member team of BIT Sindri’s civil engineering department bagged the first position in the IFAT India trade fair ‘University Challenge’ competition 2022. The team comprising Animesh Kumar Singh, Ashutosh Kumar and Sushanto Shekhar outnumbered the challengers across the country and brought a prestigious event for the institution.

The two –day University Challenge competition was concluded at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai on Friday. Ten university teams (one team comprising three members) of the country were selected for participation in different disciplines.

Each team had been given two tasks to perform. The first task was to plan an integrated water resources management (IWRM) concept using DWA environmental cards. The second task was to research and gather information at the fair and present a report with a pre-defined focus.

“Our team showed extreme brilliance and diligence to beat other teams and bagged the first position,” said Dr DK Singh, BIT director.

The competition was organised by IFAT India, International Solid-Waste Association (ISWA) under the auspices of Germany’s DAAD.

“It is a matter of pride for the institution and state. We are happy that students of BIT Sindri have once again proved that they are second to none in the country,” said Professor Ghanshyam, the chairman of the Career Development Centre (CDC) and Professor Maya Rai, of the civil engineering department while congratulating the team members.

They said that the success and research of BIT students keep significant on two points. First, water management is a global challenge and secondly purified water is a requirement for sustainable development in the present age. The report and research of the BIT team on water management were highly appreciated by the expert in the trade fair compared to teams of other universities.

Professor Ghanshyam said IFAT India is a leading environmental technology trade fair which provides a platform to network with key industry players, and innovators across the globe. IFAT India showcases solutions to resolve environmental concerns of the hour.
