Dhanbad, June 17: The wife of a retired postmaster was shot at by bike-borne criminals at her residence in Bhuli A Block township under Bhuli OP on Friday night.

She was first admitted at Asarfi Hospital where having seen her condition critical, doctors referred her to a super speciality hospital. Family members took her away at Mission Hospital Durgapur.

Police have taken her son-in-law and three others in custody on the basis of the statement of the victim woman Sumitra Devi in the hospital.

Bhuli OP officer-in-charge Roshan Kumar Bada said that the incident took place at around 9.30 pm on Friday, Victim Sumitra Devi was walking out of her quarter while her husband retired postmaster Uday Pratap Singh was in the room.

All of a sudden three criminals riding on a bike reached there and fired on Sumitra Devi. The bullet hit her stomach. She was taken to  Asarfi Hospital.

Deputy Superintendent of Police ( law and order)  Arvind Kumar Vinha and Bhuli OP police officer-in-charge Roshan Kumar Bada also reached her quarter and began the investigation.

At the hospital in her statement to police, Sumitra Devi alleged that her daughter Rina and son-in-law Uttam Singh alias Chhotu Singh conspired to kill her for grabbing the quarter.

Sumitra Devi, a resident of the Munghyre district of  Bihar,  informed the police that a few months ago she had asked her daughter to live in the quarter till she returns back from her native village. But when she returned, her daughter and son-in-law refused to evacuate.

However, under pressure, they vacated the quarter merely three days ago.

Taking swift action police arrested Chhotu Singh from his E Block-based quarter and picked up three other persons from there at late night.
