Dhanbad, Sept 22: The Dhanbad POCSO court on Friday awarded 20-year jail term to a youth identified as Nasim Ali (28), a resident of Chirkunda, in a three-year-old case of abduction and rape of a minor girl.
The POCSO court special judge Prabhakar Singh while hearing the case also slapped a penalty of Rs 12,000 on accused Nasim Ali, besides 20 years of jail punishment.
Special Public Prosecutor (PP) of POCSO Anil Kumar Singh told media persons that the court had held Nasim Ali guilty in the case on Wednesday and reserved the announcement over the quantum of punishment for today.
As per the FIR lodged by the guardian of the minor girl, the accused on the night of September 7, 2020, abducted and took away the victim to Asansol ( West Bengal) and raped her in a hotel. As per the complaint, the accused first developed a friendship with the girl through Facebook and later began blackmailing her over a photo.
The accused compelled the girl to take money and ornament from her house and elope with him. He intoxicated her in a hotel and raped her. Later, Asansol and Chirkunda (Dhanbad) police rescued her from the hotel.
On the statement of the victim girl, the Chirdkunda police lodged an FIR against Nasim Ali.
