Dhanbad’s Sanjay Sharma sets record for Jharkhand, wins silver medal at AICS

Dhanbad, Feb 6: Sanjay Kumar Sharma of Dhanbad set a new record for Jharkhand by winning a bronze medal in the over 55 years age group event in the All Indian Civil Services (AICS) Badminton Championship 2022-23 at Gandhinagar, Gujarat today.

In the match between semifinal losers for the bronze medal today, Sanjay Kumar Sharma of Jharkhand beat Niraj Kumar of Bihar in straight sets 21-08, 2107.

In 23 years of Jharkhand, this is the first time a player of state has won a medal in a veteran event of the AICS championship.

Besides it, the Jharkhand pair of Sanjay  Kumar Sharma and Shankar Ram had also reached the semifinal of the over 55 years age group event but they lost.

Sanjay Kumar Sharma is presently posted in Dhanbad as an assistant research officer in National Highway Division.

Dhanbad badminton players Ravi Kumar Sharma, Subhojit Dutta, Amarjit Kumar, and Shruti have congratulated Sanjay for his record of winning a medal for the first time in the national badminton championship of  All India Civil Services veteran event for the state.
