Dhanbad, May 5: BJP leader and former chief minister Babulal Marandi while expressing concern over deteriorated law and order in Dhanbad said that the situation in the district is frightening. Businessmen are being killed and doctors are leaving the district due to extortion calls.
Babulal Marandi was addressing the Dharna rally at Randhir Verma Chowk on Thursday afternoon. It was called by Dhanbad Sadar MLA Raj Sinha against the spate of crime incidents in the district.
Marandi said that the first duty of any government is to maintain the law and order situation so that people could live in peace. But the situation in the state has changed since the Hemant Soren led coalition government was formed.
“Since criminals and brokers are running the government, we cannot expect law and order as per rules in this situation. Despite the information, no action is taken against the criminals in the state,” said the former chief minister.
Marandi further said that despite being a small state, the crime average of Jharkhand is more than the national average. Illegal mining is being done under the patronage of the state government. Coal loot has become the order of the day and commission is being sent to all leaders.
“BJP not forming an alternative government in Jharkhand”
In his speech, the BJP leader ruled out preparations for an alternative government in case the Hemant Soren led coalition government falls in wake of the mining lease issue.
“People have not given us the mandate for government. We will not pull down the government. But we will stage dharna, demonstration and agitation in a democratic way to bring the government on the right track for which people have given their mandate,” Marandi said.
He said such a situation for the state can’t be deferred further. He called upon the people to descend on the road and make the movement of government and its officials difficult, adding that only then the law and order situation would improve.
BJP Sadar MLA Raj Sinha, Nirsa MLA Aparna Sengupta, senior state leader Ganesh Mishra, district president (urban) Chandrashekhar Singh former president Hari Prakash Lata, Satyendra Kumar, Ramesh Rahi, vice-president Sanjay Jha, Saroj Singh, Milton Parthsarthi also addressed the Dharna rally.
MLA Raj Sinha, who had called dharna against the deteriorated law and order, said that a businessman of Jharia Ranjit Sab was pumped with five cartridges, a doctor was assaulted while a senior doctor cum clinic owner left Dhanbad after receiving an extortion call and life threat to the family. But police are yet to act. There are three police captains in the district but crimes have not been checked.
Sinha resented that he talked with the DGP over the spate of crime incidents who said to meet the SSP. But no action was taken. “ Much water has flowed in the Damodar River. People of Dhanbad would not rest until the crime situation is improved,” he warned.
