Jamshedpur, Nov 2: It’s Dhanteras today and steel city markets were flooded with offers.
Showrooms, shops, malls, and departmental stores were decked up for the festive occasion.
Dhanteras is the first day of the five-day Diwali, the festival of lights.
With the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions, people went on a shopping spree since morning at commercial hub Bistupur and Sakchi apart from other places.
Dhanteras falls on the thirteenth day of the Krishna paksha in the month of Ashwin, it signifies wealth.
On this day, people purchase gold, silver, electronic goods, utensils, vehicles and other products.
After the dull season last year due to the Covid-induced pandemic utensil traders, jewellers and dealers in electrical home appliances are hopeful of doing a brisk business this year.
A crockery and gift items retailer in Sakchi said, “ We are witnessing a good footfall of customers since morning. The footfall is expected to get a pace later in the day.”
The retailer said he has sufficient stock to meet the requirements of customers.
A Bistupur-based jeweller said: “Idols of 24 carat hallmark gold Lakshmi and Ganesh and silver coins witnesses brisk sale on Dhanteras. We are optimistic of doing a good business this year.”
The electronic goods dealers tried to woo customers with new models of LEDs, music systems and iPhones while real estate firms offered discounts and other lucrative schemes for housing projects.
The two-wheeler and car dealers also witnessed impressive bookings for Dhanteras this year.
The district administration made proper security arrangements in markets to avoid any untoward incident during the festival.
