Washington: Former President Donald Trump attributed his survival from an assassination attempt during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania to divine intervention. He made this statement on Sunday, emphasizing the need for Americans to unite.
“It was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening,” Trump posted on social media, urging Americans to join together in “not allowing Evil to Win.”
The incident occurred on Saturday at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump, 78, was hit in the ear by a gunman. The chaotic and shocking event has heightened political tensions as the US presidential election approaches. Trump was quickly escorted off stage, blood streaked across his face, while the shooter and a bystander were killed, and two spectators were critically injured.
President Joe Biden, who is expected to face Trump in the upcoming presidential election, condemned the violence. “There is no place in America for this kind of violence,” Biden stated.
In a message on his Truth Social platform on Sunday morning, Trump emphasized the importance of unity and resilience. “In this moment, it is more important than ever that we stand United, and show our True Character as Americans, remaining Strong and Determined, and not allowing Evil to Win,” he wrote. Trump also confirmed his attendance at the Republican National Convention, which begins on Monday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The incident underscores the intense and polarized nature of the current political climate in the United States, as both leaders call for peace and solidarity in the face of violence.
