Diwali noise hits alarming level in Dhanbad

Dhanbad, Nov 5: Noise pollution in Dhanbad is above permissible limited and rising at an alarming rate at different places in the cities.

As per study conducted by  Dhanbad Regional Pollution Control Board (RPCB) before and on Diwali festival ( on November 4) at  Bank More commercial area, Hirapur residential area and Bartand, noise level was found  70 to 100% above permissible standard.

On the occasion of Diwali, the RPCB also set up a device in Dhanbad and Bokaro for air pollution assessment. The official said the final record of air pollution would be completed in one week reading.

An RPCB official while releasing the data said the minimum noise level of Bank More area  was  found  74.6 dB  ( decibels) on Diwali day while at night it was 105.2 dB. Bank More is considered a posh commercial region in Dhanbad.

As per Pollution Control Board norm noise permissible limit of commercial area  is 65 dB in day and 55dB at night. Similarly in a residential area, 55dB in day and 45 dB at night is the permissible limit. However, in the industrial area noise permissible limit is 75 dB during the day and 70 dB at night.

The official said in Hirapur that is considered a residential area of coal city noise pollution in day was recorded minimum 69.6dB and 102.7 dB maximum at night.

The RPCB had set up the third device at Bartand near Housing Colony where the noise level was found 69.5 dB during the day while it was 100.3 dB at night. The official said the reading was conducted per hour at six different times.
‘Of course, the noise level is alarming and it could be checked only through awareness and self conscience of people,” said RN Choudhary, regional officer of PCB.

Choudhary said he would launch a campaign to make people aware that maintaining the noise level is in interest of people’s health.
