Ranchi: A gang defrauding young job-seekers under the guise of securing employment in the Army, Military Engineering Service (MES) and Railways has been exposed, with Ranchi Police arresting one member of the network based on inputs received from Kolkata Military Intelligence.
Accused Arrested from Ring Road Hotel
A joint team of police and military intelligence apprehended the accused from a hotel located on Ring Road. The arrested individual has been identified as Gautam Kumar, a resident of RTC School, Lovekush Tower, under Ranchi Sadar police station area. A large number of fake appointment letters and other documents were recovered from his possession.
Fake Army and MES Documents Recovered
According to police, the accused would extort money from young people by promising them government jobs, gaining their trust by showing fabricated documents and appointment letters purportedly linked to Army or MES recruitment. Investigation revealed that several young people had been defrauded using this method. During the probe, documents seized by police were found to include multiple fake papers related to the Army and Military Engineering Service, including materials designed to make the fraudulent recruitment process appear genuine.
Two Other Accused Still Being Traced
According to the FIR filed in the case, complainant Yogesh Kumar had paid Rs 6.50 lakh through online transfer. Police are now working to determine how many others are involved in the broader network and where the fake documents were being prepared. The FIR names Chandan Kumar Singh and Mrityunjay Kumar alongside Gautam Kumar. Following Gautam Kumar’s arrest, police are investigating the roles of the other named accused, while also gathering information about other victims defrauded by the gang and additional individuals connected to the network.
