Ranchi: In protest against the incident in Kolkata, doctors across Jharkhand, including those at RIMS (Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences), have gone on strike, leaving patients in distress. While doctors in Kolkata have been protesting for the last two months, and many have been on a hunger strike for over 200 hours, the movement has now gained nationwide momentum.
Starting Tuesday, doctors under the banner of IMA (Indian Medical Association), JDN (Junior Doctors Network), and FAIMA (Federation of All India Medical Association) initiated a nationwide protest. The junior doctors of RIMS have also joined the movement. A hunger strike is being observed from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, during which all OPD (Outpatient Department) and OT (Operation Theatre) services at RIMS are closed. However, the junior doctors have decided to continue providing emergency services.
This strike has caused significant trouble for patients, especially those who have traveled long distances to seek treatment. Many are unable to receive the necessary medical care due to the closure of services.
The junior doctors of RIMS have expressed their solidarity with the ongoing protest against the Kolkata incident, where no concrete action has been taken so far. Despite ongoing hearings in the Supreme Court and a CBI investigation, the accused has not yet been apprehended. This nationwide strike reflects the frustration of doctors across the country, including those at RIMS, who are standing in support of the cause. During the strike, only emergency services will continue, while all other services will remain suspended.
