New Delhi, Oct.12: With the daily count of Covid-19 cases decreasing in the country, the Ministry of Civil Aviation allowed scheduled domestic aviation operations to resume on October 18 without any capacity restrictions.
Domestic flight capacity is currently capped at 85 percent.
According to a Civil Aviation Ministry decision, “After reviewing the existing status of Scheduled Domestic Flights in relation to passenger demand for air travel,” the ministry “decided to reinstate all scheduled domestic operations with effect from October 18, 2021, without any capacity constraint.”
“However, the airlines/airport operators must ensure that the criteria for containing the spread of Covid are properly followed and that Covid appropriate behaviour is strongly enforced by them during the travel,” the statement continued.
The cap was set at 65 percent between July 5 and August 12. The cap was set at 50% between June 1 and July 5.
The cap was gradually increased to 80% by December 2020, and it remained in place until June 1 this year, when it was reduced due to the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
