Ranchi, July 6: Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University on Wednesday commemorated the 121st birth anniversary of its eponymous Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.
The guest speaker on the occasion was Prof Dr Anand Vardhan, Secretary, Museums Association of India and Senior Faculty, Delhi Institute of Heritage Research and Management; who talked of the various ups and downs in the life of Dr Mukherjee, along with discussing his basic decisions as a politician.
Dr Anand Vardhan in his address said, “It is not so easy, to sum up, Dr Shyama Prasad Mukerjee in words. He is remembered in many forms. He is remembered as a union campaigner (Sangh Pracharak), as an educationist, as a politician, and a social worker.”
He further added, “Dr Mukherjee is always seen as a father figure by all, however, he developed his own personality through inspiration from his father. His father was also an educationist and was also immediately influenced by politics.”
Furthermore, he talked of the Agnipath scheme and said that Dr Mukherjee was the first to say that every student should be the epitome of peace because only intellectual ability is not capable of running a nation, physical ability is equally important.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Tapan Kumar Shandilya on the occasion said, “We should remember Dr Mukherjee just as we remember Sidhu-Kanho, Tilka Manjhi and others, as I believe, he is a martyr as well, who lost his life fighting for Kashmir.”
Discussing Dr Mukherjee’s decisions regarding the industry, VC Shandilya compared the models of building businesses of Jawaharlal Nehru and Dr Mukherjee. Furthermore, talking about the importance of educators, the VC said that teachers are like the spine of a university.
He further talked of his past experiences and VC and Pro VC of other universities, wherein he discussed his visits and the conditions of the rural areas of the nation. He also discussed the socio-economic conditions in India and the work that needs to be done. He also discussed the needs of Jharkhand as a tribal state and compared work done here with the work in Bihar.
On the occasion, audiences also saw performances from students of the Dance and Music departments respectively. The programme was graced by Registrar Namita Singh, DSW Anil Singh, PRO Rajesh Singh along with the professors and students of the university.
