Dumka, May 17: The ongoing investigation by the enforcement directorate (ED) pertaining to the alleged misappropriation of NREGA funds, has its shadow in Santhal Pargana, the home turf of the ruling JMM, as well.

In what is largely being dubbed to be a skin saving move of Dumka Police, one of the most infamous mining mafias Kalimuddin Ansari alias Kalim Miyan has finally been arrested following a raid conducted at his native home in Khadakduma village in the late hours of Monday.

The arrest of Ansari, who is believed to be enjoying patronage of the ruling JMM, has been linked to an FIR lodged against him and four others with the Shikaripara police station in January this year.

Considering his active role in masterminding the illegal mining of coal and other minerals, the divisional forest officer (DFO) Abhirup Sinha had few months back recommended to the district administration for expelling him and his aides from as a measure to check illegal mining activities in local forests.

Ansari recently figured along with a senior police officer of the district in a complaint lodged by a senior lawyer of Jharkhand High Court Ram Subhag Singh where the ED has accused them for allegedly involving in illegal mining and transporting mineral items.

The complaint suggests that Ansari and the police officer in question together also run a passing racket and collect Rs 4600 from every truck carrying illegally procured minerals so as to ensure their uninterrupted movement through different police station areas to cross the border of the district.

Dumka SP Ambar Lakda while confirming Ansari’s arrest said attempts were on to nab other accused related to the case.
