Ranchi, Jan 2: The working of the Multi-constituency Prototype Remote Electronic Voting Machine will be demonstrated by the Election Commission of India (ECI), New Delhi on January 16 from 11 am onwards at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi for the representatives of political parties.

Notably, members of the Technical Expert Committee of the Commission will also be present on this occasion.

The Election Commission of India has started work on providing remote voting facilities to citizens living elsewhere in the country from home town due to employment, education or other reasons.

This would make it possible to vote for one’s home/native constituency from anywhere in the country. Overseas voters will be relieved from the hassle of going back to their home state/city to vote.

The Commission has developed a prototype Remote Electronic Voting Machine (RVM). Polling up to 72 constituencies will be possible from a single remote polling booth. The Election Commission of India has invited political parties to a demonstration of prototype RVM in which opinions will be sought from them on the legal, procedural, administrative and technological challenges of the prototype RVM.
