Ranchi, Feb.21: Economist and former vice-chancellor of Vinoba Bhave University Ramesh Sharan today participated in the Chintan Shivir organised by the Jharkhand unit of Congress in Giridih.

Sharan discussed migration and unemployment in the state saying that the problem continues though the matter remained in the discussion even before the formation of Jharkhand. He said the problem can be sorted out only if the state government formulates a policy of development in which due attention should be given to the preservation of water, forest and land.

The former vice-chancellor said that some cities in Jharkhand developed due to industry, but the development of rural areas could not take place and even today there is a big problem of malnutrition in the state.

Sharan also stressed education saying other than higher education proper attention is required to be given to the improvement of the quality of primary education.

Earlier, general secretary of the All India Congress Committee and Chairman of the Media and Communication Department, Randeep Singh Surjewala, expressed his concern over the poor economy of the country.

“Today the economic condition of the country is passing through a critical phase. On average, every Indian citizen has a debt of Rs 96361. Under the leadership of Manmohan Singh, when the UPA was in power, the average GDP of the country was 8%, but today’s situation is that the country’s GDP has become 7 percent,” he said presenting many other economic data.

All India Congress Committee SC-ST Minorities Coordinator K Raju gave detailed information about the digital membership campaign. He said that it is very easy to become a digital member. He said that every block will have one chief enroller who will be one woman and one male enroller at every booth. These enrollers will make members from their own smartphones. Jharkhand state membership in-charge Prakash Joshi also addressed that Jharkhand will perform well in the entire country in the membership campaign.
