Kolkata, July 23: The Enforcement Directorate on Saturday detained West Bengal Minister and Trinamool Congress secretary general Partha Chatterjee in connection with a money laundering investigation involving the state’s alleged teacher recruitment scam.

The arrest occurs one day after a close aide to the minister was found with Rs 20 crore.
Partha Chatterjee is currently the minister of industry and commerce. When the alleged scam was carried out, he held the portfolio for education.
In accordance with a high court order, the CBI had been investigating alleged anomalies in the recruitment of Group-C and Group-D staff and teachers in government-sponsored and -aided institutions, while the ED was following the money trail in the fraud.
