ED raids at premises of Jharkhand Congress MLA, ex-Bihar MLA continue

Ranchi, May 30: The raids launched by the ED in the morning at 12 locations across the state, including the Ranchi residence of Congress’ Poraiyahat MLA Pradeep Yadav are still on.

A person monitoring the ED action said that the probe agency is presently questioning Yadav and trying to know about his sources of earnings, savings and investments besides properties in his name and his family members and verifying documents.

The locations, an ED source said, include builder Shivkumar Yadav’s residence on Cheshire Home Road in Ranchi, residences of contractor Ajay Kumar Jha, Mickey Jha, Vinod Kumar Lal at Dumka, the residence of Devendra Pandit and Manoj Akela at Godda besides others. Apart from this, the residence of former Goh (Bihar) MLA Manoj Sharma in Ranchi’s Dhurwa locality is also being raided.

The action was started on the inputs given by the Income Tax Department, which on November 4, 2022, raided and recovered Rs 2 lakh from MLA Pradeep Yadav, Rs 40 lakh from his close Godda hotelier Shyamakant Yadav, nine lakh rupees from Dumka’s Vinod Kumar Lal.

In the case of tax evasion of crores of rupees, the Income Tax Department raided 70 locations in three states (Jharkhand, Bihar and Bengal) for three days. It was in this raid, the Income Tax Department got Rs 2.10 crore in cash. Benami property worth Rs 100 crore was detected in this raid. Information related to investments in gold-silver jewellery, movable and immovable property worth crores were  also found by the IT department.
