Ranchi, April 12: The Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) special court in Jharkhand capital today allowed Enforcement Directorate officials to interrogate suspended rural development department Chief Engineer Virendra Ram for two days and his relative Alok Ranjan for one day.
The court directed the ED to go to Birsa Munda Central jail to interrogate Ram. For the interrogation of Ranjan, the court allowed one day remand to the central probe agency.
The order came after the court heard the argument of advocates appearing from the prosecution and the defence side. Both Ram and Ranjan are in judicial custody. Ranjan was arrested on Tuesday, Ram had been arrested on February 22 after a raid at his 24 locations and recovery of unaccounted ornaments worth over Rs 50 lakh and documents of investments worth crores.
Ranjan, known as Vakil, is the same person who was arrested by the Jharkhand Anti-Corruption Bureau in 2019 when the state probe agency raided the Jamshedpur premises of Suresh Prasad Verma, a junior engineer of the department, and recovered Rs 2.67 crore in cash.
The said amount was recovered from the room of Ranjan, who claimed to be living there as a tenant.
