Ranchi: Panic has gripped villages in Ranchi’s Ratu area after consecutive elephant attacks claimed two lives within two days and left several others injured. Residents have demanded urgent intervention from the forest department.

Second Body Recovered Near Chitarkota River

On Tuesday morning, a body was recovered from the Chitarkota river area. Police suspect the death was caused by an elephant attack and have taken the body into custody for further investigation.

Man Crushed To Death In Village Field

A day earlier, 45-year-old Subodh Khalkho was killed in Chitarkota Barka Toli Patra village under Ratu police station limits. According to local reports, villagers had gathered after news spread about the elephant’s presence. Despite warnings, Subodh reportedly moved closer to the animal while working in a field, after which the elephant attacked and crushed him.

Multiple Injuries Reported

Roshan Khalkho sustained serious injuries in the incident, including a fractured leg, and is undergoing treatment at Ranchi Sadar Hospital. Another victim, 40-year-old Periya Urain from Lahna village, was also injured and admitted to Modi Memorial Hospital in Ratu.

With repeated attacks creating fear across nearby villages, residents have urged the forest department to take immediate and concrete measures to prevent further incidents.
