New Delhi, Sept.27: The Ministry of Labour released its quarterly economic survey for the April-June period of the financial year 2021-22 on Monday. It revealed that overall employment in nine sectors covered by it was 3.8 crore, 29% more from 2.37 crore recorded during the sixth economic census, which covered the period between January 2013 and April 2014.

Manufacturing, construction, trade, transportation, education, health, and accommodation, as well as Information Technology (IT) or business process outsourcing (BPO) industries and financial services, are among the nine sectors chosen for the survey.

Non-farm employment in these industries accounts for a significant portion of total employment in the country.

The IT or BPO industry, which grew by 152 percent in terms of employment, was followed by the health, transportation, financial services, and construction industries, which grew by 77 percent, 68 percent, 48 percent, and 42 percent, respectively. However, employment in the trade sector declined by 25%, while employment in the accommodation and restaurant industry fell by 13%, according to the poll.

Apart from that, women workers made up 29% of the workforce, which was slightly lower than the 31% reported in the sixth economic census.

In the selected sectors, regular workers account for 88 percent of the expected workforce. According to the poll, 18% of construction workers are on a contract, while 13% are on a casual basis.
