Dhanbad, Dec 16: CoWin portal’s erroneous records have left the district health department officials and staff engaged in Covid vaccination campaign confused in Dhanbad.
The CoWin portal shows completion of the second jab of the vaccination of several people at different vaccination centres in the district without them taking the vaccine. When people reached the centre for their due second dose jab after the prescribed interval of the first dose, the health staff sent them back showing the portal record of them already being vaccinated.
Ajay Trivedi reached Bankmore based Gujrati School vaccination centre for his second dose of Covidshield. He was informed by the health staff that he has already been jabbed with the second dose. For his satisfaction, the health staff of the centre also showed him the certificate of taking both the jabs in the CoWin portal.
This was not the isolated case of a particular centre, albeit complaints have been pouring in from different vaccination sites of the district. Since the Omicron variant is spreading rapidly in the country, people have started rushing to vaccination centres for their second dose of Covid vaccination. But the erroneous records of the CoWin portal have increased their worries.
Staff at vaccination centres said that such erroneous certificate problems on the portal have been appearing for the last 15 days. They knew that people would obviously not come to the centre after taking the second dose but they can’t overrule the portal record by administering them with a vaccine.
District nodal officer for Covid vaccination Dr Vikash Rana today admitted to having received complaints from several people about the fiasco with second dose and said it has become a major issue in vaccination drives.
“Portal record shows address of Bihar vaccination centres. The address of people of Sasaram, Siwan , Rohtas and other districts of Bihar who have taken the second dose is found in the portal in place of Dhanbad residents. We are collecting data of such people of Dhanbad who have been denied second dose and have requested them to give it in writing so that we could inform officials of the state technical cell for correction in the portal. Five to six people have already given it in written,” said Dr Vikash Rana.
