Ranchi, Feb 20: Former MLA Amit Kumar and his wife Seema Mahto have resigned from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. Both leaders informed about this through a letter to party chief Shibu Soren. Kumar has said in the letter to Soren that during the 2014 elections, he had reached the assembly on a JMM ticket. It was expected that the party would play a big role in protecting and promoting local language, and culture. However, the letter stated that despite the formation of the government, the desired change is not visible.
The letter further said that the linguistic encroachment continues even after JMM came into power. In the name of maintaining languages like Bhojpuri, Magahi, and appeasing a few, outsiders are sure to get opportunities in the jobs here. Kumar believes that the party has not shown seriousness in Khatian-based job and local policymaking. It has been two years since the government was formed, yet no initiative was seen in this direction. He further added that on January 20, he had announced that he would resign if the regional and job policy was not discussed within the next month. The letter said that Kumar is giving his resignation due to a lack of expected initiative. Notably, Amit Kumar was considered a close confidante of Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Both husband and wife had reached the assembly after defeating AJSU supremo Sudesh Mahto.

Kumar said that the 10th and 12th pass-based planning policy is not acceptable to him. Amit has also given information about his resignation on social media. In a tweet on social media platform Twitter, he has said that the Khatian based regional and job policy has not been defined by the JMM government so far. Even linguistic encroachment could not be stopped. He is hurt by this and is resigning from the party. He ‘loves Jharkhandi soil and language and won’t compromise on it at all.’ His wife Seema Mahto has also resigned from the party expressing similar objections.
Furthermore, Amit Kumar’s resignation has raised the possibility of a major breakdown in the Jharkhand Chhatra Morcha. Kumar has worked for Jharkhand Chhatra Morcha for a long time and many student leaders who have been made office bearers in different districts and divisions in the organization are in direct contact with him. In such a situation, the student organization of the party may have to bear loss.
