Daltonganj, Aug 28: In the biggest ever raid, a team of excise officials led by the district excise officer Sudhir Kumar has seized a little over 12,000 litres of spirit at Kowwal village under the Chhaterpur police station area in Palamu.
Stating this, the district excise officer said, “We have arrested one identified as Madan Vishwakarma, the son of Raju Vishwakarma who managed to flee.”
“The father-son duo were running this racket of spirit where the son got caught while the father escaped,” said Sudhir Kumar.

A little over 12,000 litres of spirit could have prepared 3,000 boxes of illicit bottles of wine, he said. Each such box has 12 bottles costing 600 to 700 per bottle. The seized spirit is in fact the most important and vital component of making illicit wine.
The net worth of the seized spirit could have produced illicit liquor worth around 2 crores of rupees based on its potential market value.
Sudhir Kumar said, “The Vishwakarma family has a facade of doing repair and mending works for hywa type heavy vehicles but beneath the facade, there was this huge storage of spirit all for the purpose of manufacturing illicit liquor.”
