Bhandara: At least eight people lost their lives, and seven others sustained injuries in a devastating explosion at an Ordnance Factory in Maharashtra’s Bhandara district on Friday morning. The incident has raised alarm as several workers are feared trapped under debris.
Rescue Operations Underway
The explosion occurred around 10:30 am in the Jawahar Nagar area. According to preliminary information, a roof collapsed following the blast. The district collector, Sanjay Kolte, confirmed, “Firefighters and ambulances were dispatched immediately after the accident. Rescue operations are ongoing, with heavy machinery deployed to remove debris.”
He further added, “Out of the 12 people reported at the site, two have been rescued so far.”
Government Response
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his condolences and assured full support for rescue efforts. “There are reports that 13 to 14 workers were trapped. Five have been safely evacuated. The district administration is working in coordination with defence forces and SDRF teams to manage the situation,” Fadnavis stated.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also commented on the tragedy, describing it as a “major accident” and confirming the casualties.
