FIDE rating chess: Anurag of Bengal emerges champ, Adhiraj of Jharkhand runner-up

Dhanbad, Aug 10: Anurag Jaiswal of West Bengal won the FIDE rating chess championship with the highest  8 points in nine rounds which concluded at St Xavier Welfare Centre, Chaibasa on Wednesday evening.

In the final round, Anurag defeated Adhiraj Mitra (7 points) of Jamshedpur to ensure the first prize of Rs 15,000.

In the championship, though eight players got equal  7 points each but on the basis of progressive points Adhiraj Mitra got the second position followed by  Akshat Negi,  Rohan Vijay Shandilya, Bishwajit Chatterjee, Manish Sharma, Abhiraj Dey, Shreyan Gupta Burman from third to ninth position.

Eight players also got equal 6.5 points but Kishan Kumar got the 10 position followed by Ranit Maity, Bhudeo Tripathi, Rajesh Kumar, Debanjan Sinha, Narendra Agrawal and Raja Bose from 11th to 16th position.

Akshat  Negi beat SG Burman, Rohan Shandilya Vijay beat Rishan Debnath, Bishwajit Chatterjee beat Saurav Kumar, Manish Sharma beat Ajit Kumar Saw, Ranit Maity shared point with Kishan Kumar, Kamal Kishore Deonath beat VP Singh and  Bhudeo Tripathi beat Suyash Patel.

In the closing function, West Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner  Ananya Mittal was the chief guest and along with the guest of honour  Shruti  Rajlaxmi gave away prizes to the winners.

On the occasion, All Jharkhand Chess Association vice-president Vijay Kumar Singh,  West Singhbum Chess Association president  Dr Vijay Mudra,  famous industrialist cum   tournament sponsor  Mukund Rungta, East Singhbhum Chess Association secretary NK Singh and Seraikela Chess Association secretary Ajay Kumar were also present.

Organizing secretary Basant Kumar  Khandelwal informed about the successful national level championship.

Khandelwal said Narendra Nath Pandey was declared in veteran event champion followed by Saurav Kumar (handicapped category), Aniket Verma  (best district player), Rudranil Rai and Sanskriti Yadav ( under-7), Vidushi Munshi, Spandan Devnath (under-9), Navika Jaiswal and Syen  Badwa ( under-11), Kathakali Dey and Nikunj Agrawal (under-13),  Awani Kumari and  Projit Dutt ( under-15) category.
