New Delhi, Jan 29: 12 opposition parties will join the Bharat Jodo Yatra’s closing ceremony on Monday, sources revealed today. There were 21 parties invited to the event, but some declined because of security reasons, they claimed.

Samajwadi Party, TDP, and Trinamool Congress are some of the parties that would not attend the event.

MK Stalin-led Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Tejashwi Yadav-led Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United), Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, CPI(M), CPI, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Kerala Congress, Farooq Abdullah-led Jammu & Kashmir National Conference, Mehbooba Mufti’s Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and Shibu Soren’s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) will attend the function in Srinagar.

Along with her brother Rahul Gandhi, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra participated in the Yatra on Saturday. The Yatra had been postponed on Friday due to an alleged security breach, and it restarted from the Chersoo hamlet in Awantipora on Saturday. Mehbooba Mufti, the leader of the People Democratic Party (PDP), also took part in the yatra at Awantipora.

There were no security lapses during the yatra, according to the local police. On Saturday, Vijay Kumar, the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for the region, rejected the accusations and asserted that there had been no security lapses during the campaign.

Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the January 27 ‘security Breach’ incident of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and sought for his personal intervention in ensuring adequate security for the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir.

Notably, the Kanyakumari to Kashmir yatra famously called as ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ started from the southern tip of the country, Kanyakumari on September 7 and ends on January 30 in Srinagar, after covering 3,970 km, 12 states, and two Union territories in around 145 days.
