Kolkata: A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged against BJP leader and veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty by the Bidhannagar Police, following accusations of delivering a provocative speech during a BJP gathering in North 24 Parganas district on October 27. The complaint, filed at Bidhannagar South police station, comes after Chakraborty’s speech at the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC) in Salt Lake, where he expressed the BJP’s intent to claim West Bengal’s “masnad” (throne) in the 2026 Assembly elections.
Chakraborty, who was awarded the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award earlier this year, urged his party’s booth-level workers to resist any alleged intimidation from rivals, referencing TMC MLA Humayun Kabir’s remarks during the Lok Sabha elections aimed at BJP supporters.
“In 2026, the masnad will be ours, and we will do everything to achieve this goal,” said Chakraborty, addressing party workers at the event, which was also attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah as part of the BJP’s membership drive.
A senior Bidhannagar police official confirmed that an investigation is underway. However, BJP state president and Union minister Sukanta Majumdar dismissed the FIR as “vendetta politics,” stating, “There is nothing provocative in his speech. These are just attempts to intimidate him by using police as a political tool.”
