Dumka, Dec.25: A massive fire broke out at the Godda district collectorate building’s criminal branch office in the early hours of Saturday. Many important records and files are suspected to have destroyed in the incident.

SP Godda Y S Ramesh and his subordinates rushed to the Collectorate building this morning after learning of the fire, which was discovered by a few constables staying at the neighbouring barracks.

According to the SP, the fire was started by a short-circuit, which was quickly doused by police officers before it could spread to other rooms and cause a major blaze.

“Ten to fifteen files have been burnt in the fire which will be restored soon” SP said adding the actual cause of the fire was being ascertained.

Some electrical equipment was also damaged by the fire, but it will be replaced and installed as quickly as possible, according to the officials.
