Mumbai, Dec. 25: Due to an increase in coronavirus cases and the growing threat of the Omicron form, the Maharashtra government has issued new measures to prevent the infection from spreading further ahead of the festive season.
The Uddhav Thackeray-led government has directed that gatherings of more than five people in public areas between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. will be forbidden, among other things, from the intervening night of December 24-25 till further notice.
The government’s ruling stated that gatherings of more than five individuals in public areas across the state are outlawed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., with just 100 people allowed in indoor weddings and no more than 250 in outdoor weddings.
Weddings with more than 100 guests are not permitted in closed venues. The number of people in open spaces will not exceed 250 or 25% of the overall capacity, whichever is lower. In closed locations, any social, political, or religious gathering of more than 100 individuals is prohibited, whereas in open spaces, gatherings of up to 250 persons are permitted.
In closed places where seats are permanent and immovable, the number of participants in closed spaces other than social, political, or religious gatherings should not exceed 50% of the overall capacity.
Attendance at sporting events and sporting ceremonies must not exceed 25% of the venue’s seating capacity. Restaurants, gyms, spas, theatres, and theatres will all be at 50% capacity. In the case of any other type of gathering that does not fall into one of the categories specified above, the DDMA will set a limit on the number of people who can attend without exceeding the percentage limit.
On Friday, Maharashtra registered 1,410 new coronavirus cases and 20 Omicron infections. In comparison to Thursday, the daily COVID-19 instances increased by more than 200. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also banned New Year celebrations and gatherings in any closed or open locations of the city, in light of the escalating incidents.
