New Delhi, June 30: Hockey India announced on Thursday that two players and three members of the support crew in the Indian men’s team had tested positive for COVID-19. At the National Camp at the SAI Centre in Bengaluru, the men’s squad is presently getting ready for the Commonwealth Games 2022.
“The RTPCR tests were conducted on Wednesday morning. They have mild symptoms and have been isolated,” reads official Hockey India release.
The men’s squad played in thrilling FIH Hockey Pro League doubleheaders against Belgium and the Netherlands earlier on Monday before returning to the National Camp at SAI Centre, Bengaluru.
Prior to the team’s departure for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, Hockey India nominated 31 players for the training camp, which will end on July 23.
India, under the direction of Manpreet Singh, is slated to face Ghana on July 31 to open their campaign. In the round-robin league games, hosts England, Canada, and Wales will compete against India, which is grouped in Pool B. Indian squad will be led by Manpreet Singh.
