Jamshedpur, Aug 19: City police on Thursday conducted a flag march in view of Muharram to be observed by the Muslim community tomorrow.
Muharram is extremely holy for the Muslim community as they mourn the death of Imam Hussein and his family on this day of sorrow. They respect their sacrifice and pray in abundance as well as refrain from all joyous events.
During the flag march taken out in the evening, a convoy of over two dozen police and riot-control vehicles rolled out from the composite control room in Sakchi and passed through sensitive localities, including Mango, Azadnagar, Sitaramdera, Golmuri, Telco, Jugsalai, Kadma and Bistupur.
Jawans of district police and quick response team took part in the flag march.
Security personnel have been deployed across the city, with a slightly heavier concentration near mosques and places where mass prayers are to be held tomorrow.
Police sources said they were taking precautionary measures to avoid any untoward incident during the festival.
Deployment of police was also made at sensitive pockets of the steel city.
