FM Nirmala Sitharaman holds discussion with WTO Director General

New Delhi, Oct 22: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday met World Trade Organization(WTO) Director-General Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in Delhi. They discussed fair, just and equitable outcomes at the WTO Ministerial meet which will be held from November 30 to December 3, 2021.

The WTO Director is also scheduled to meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during her visit. She is on a three-day visit to India and yesterday met Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. The visit of the WTO Director is significant as it comes a little over a month ahead of the 12th Ministerial Conference of the WTO.

Notably, Okonjo -Iweala is the first woman and the first African to be chosen as the Director-General of WTO. She took office on March 1, 2021 and her term will expire on August 31, 2025.
