New Delhi, Oct 22: Rajasthan’s revenue minister Harish Chaudhary has replaced former Uttarakhand chief minister and five-time member of parliament, Harish Singh Rawat as the new Congress in-charge of poll-bound Punjab.
“Congress President has appointed Shri Harish Chaudhary as AICC In-Charge of Punjab and Chandigarh with immediate effect. Harish Rawat is being relieved from his current responsibility as AICC General Secretary In-Charge of Punjab and Chandigarh. He shall continue as a member of CWC. The party appreciates his contributions as General Secretary,” said AICC general secretary K C Venugopal in a statement.
According to the reports, Harish Rawat could not handle the tussle between Captain Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu properly. Because of this, the Congress high command was angry with him. After the overthrow of the captain, Sidhu clashed with CM Charanjit Channi. Rawat wanted to come to Punjab to solve this but was stopped by the high command. He was replaced by Harish Chaudhary who handled the situation.
Notably, Harish Chaudhary was also Punjab in-charge of the party during the 2017 assembly elections and has served as AICC’s national secretary. Currently, he is a member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from the Baytu constituency in the Barmer district of the state.
