Kalpetta, Oct.5: Former DCC president P V Balachandran has quit Congress on Tuesday in Kerala’s Wayanad, which is also a VIP Lok Sabha constituency represented by Rahul Gandhi. Balachandran claimed that the grand old party had failed to halt the BJP’s growth in the country.
Balachandran, a member of the KPCC executive committee, said that both the majority and minority populations are drifting away from the Congress, and that the people will not stand with a party that has lost its vision.
He also slammed the Congress state leadership’s way of operation, stating that they were unable to take a clear political line on problems that affected the people.
He announced his decision to leave the party at a press conference, saying it was based on the understanding that it would no longer be able to function in accordance with the spirit of the Congress workers.
Balachandran’s resignation is the latest in a string of resignations in the Wayanad Congress.
Before the state’s Assembly elections in April, former MLA K C Rosakutty, KPCC secretary M S Vishwanathan, and DCC general secretary Anil Kumar all left the party.
Balachandran’s decision to leave the party is also a setback for the Congress’ current leadership, which has been shaken by the resignations of prominent leaders such as K P Anil Kumar and P S Prasanth in protest of KPCC Chief K Sudhakaran and Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly V D Satheesan’s working style.
